- Pay the full bond by money order or cashier's check to Mary Harris, Clerk of Court. Outstanding fines and costs may be deducted before a balance is returned.
- Bonding company
- The company must be licensed and approved in Shelby County. The company sets its own fee.
- GovPayNet
- Major credit and debit cards are accepted on-site, online, or by phone at 877-392-2455. The cardholder needs the arrestee and bail information the jail can provide.
- Property bond
- Shelby County property can be approved locally. Property elsewhere requires approval in that county, all owners must sign, and the incarcerated person cannot be an owner of the pledged property.
- Purge bond
- This domestic-relations or child-support payment is made in full by money order or cashier's check to Mary Harris. The clerk takes it during stated business days, and the jail takes it after hours.

Shelby County Inmate Visitation
On-site video visits take place in the Sheriff's Office lobby at no cost to the inmate or visitor. Each inmate may have one scheduled visit per week. Schedule at least 24 hours ahead through NCIC at www.ncic.com, by calling 1-800-943-2189, or at the lobby kiosk. Visitors need approval and a valid government-issued ID. A privilege restriction or an existing weekly visit can prevent another booking. Monitor availability can also limit scheduling.

All visits except privileged attorney visits can be recorded and monitored. Attorneys may visit seven days per week from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m., 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., and 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Visitors may visit no more than two separate inmates per week. Inmate swapping is not allowed. Cell phones and tablets may not be used during a visit, adults must have current government identification, and visitors under 18 generally need an adult. Officers can end a visit for rule violations, and a person subject to a protection-from-abuse order may not visit the protected inmate.
Shelby County Inmate Mail and Calls
General incoming mail is scanned and posted to an inmate kiosk. The original goes into the inmate's personal property. Legal mail is still delivered. Address mail to the inmate's full name and resident number, C/O Shelby County Jail, P.O. Box 1240, Columbiana, AL 35051. Inmate-to-inmate correspondence is prohibited, and mail with an incorrect address is returned. An appeal about a returned letter or package must be made within 48 hours at 205-670-6000 with the caller's name, phone number, and a valid appeal.
Inmates cannot receive calls, and jail staff do not relay messages. NCIC Inmate Communications handles prepaid, collect, and debit options. Non-attorney calls are recorded, three-way or unwanted calls are barred, and daytime phone access pauses during meals. TTY service is available on request. NCIC customer service is 800-943-2189 or info@ncic.com. The posted local and domestic prepaid-collect rate is $0.25 per minute, while debit or debit-card calling is $0.21 per minute. Mexico and Canada calls are $0.25 per minute. Other international calls are $0.35 per minute, and a three-minute inmate voicemail costs $1.50.

Shelby County Inmate Funds
Cash and credit or debit cards are the accepted inmate-account deposit methods. The lobby kiosk sits in the video visitation area behind the front desk. It accepts $1, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100 bills and charges $3 per transaction. Card deposits can be made at the kiosk or through Team3/Inmate Canteen. Online users need an account plus the inmate's first and last name or booking number. Money orders have not been accepted for inmate accounts since November 1, 2018.
An inmate on No Privilege status may purchase only hygiene, written-correspondence, and clothing items. Inmates may not transfer funds to one another, receive money made payable to another inmate, or possess cash. The Sheriff's Office also warns families about social-media scams.
